Why go fishing?
Question an angler why they do it and you’re likely to receive differing answers from each individual.
There are as many reasons for people to fish as there are species and types of fishing. Some people may be competitive about their sport and enter matches and tournaments, whilst other’s view their sport as a totally recreational activity. Angling is divided into the three main areas of Coarse, Game and Sea Fishing, each with their own styles, methods and venues. Some people will stick to one particular style or method whilst others will participate in many and enjoy all.
Since my first trip as a child I have tried most types of angling and for me, happiness is just being on or near water trying to capture fish. It doesn’t really matter if I don’t succeed (although that’s better), it’s more about the actual process and being at one with nature.
Peace and quiet, the tranquility of the surroundings, the wildlife, the seasons and simply being able to forget about the humdrum of normal life for the duration of the trip.
“God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.” (Izaak Walton 1593-1683)
